What a great day, added to by the drip feed of England goals against Panama.
We started ok but lost 2 of our top 3 to almost identical balls early on..just short of a length barely gaining an inch in height. Unlucky for both players but we realised now that it was a "front foot wicket" using the pad and bat to negate the variable (or lack of) bounce. After their best bowler had done his work (2 wickets) and completed 3 overs he took over wicket keeping duties and did not bowl again..which was slightly bizarre. The bowling was very ordinary and we set about punishing the loose deliveries, notable contributions from Aatreya, Harry, Will (68), Adam (54), Joe in fact every player found the boundary contributing to our score of 286 (our biggest this season). The boys felt good come tea.
Having witnessed the behaviour of the pitch, speed of the outfield and proximity of the car park boundary we chose the bowling pattern well. Our fielding was of a far better quality than the oppo and all our bowlers contributed to the wicket count. Maybe the fielding highlight was Harry's catch after stating " he only has the one shot lads" ...then followed by a ferocious strike straight at him, Harry held on. Phew.
Maximum points from the match means we are now on top of the league with 1 match remaining, Bourton Vale. This fixture was rained off earlier in the season so please look out for this fixture in the next few weeks.
Well done to the boys and thank you to the parents for all of your support.
