The experienced coach and player will help support the club’s age group coaches and will also play a key role in helping junior players make the transition to senior cricket.
Cheltenham CC director of cricket Luke Sellers said: “I am delighted Prakash has taken on this role and I am sure he will have a real impact. He is a passionate cricket man, with a wealth of experience and a real desire to help our junior boys section be the very best it can be.”
Prakash – whose two sons both came through the junior ranks at Cheltenham – has fulfilled a wide variety of roles at the club, from coach (U13s, 15s, 16s and 19s) to fixtures secretary. An allrounder on and off the pitch, he was also third team captain for four years, overseeing a number of players’ development from the junior to senior teams.
The appointment of Prakash as head of junior boys cricket is the latest in a number of exciting developments in the Cheltenham CC coaching team ahead this season. Worcestershire CCC Pathway Coach Stuart Houghton has recently rejoined the club to work with the senior men’s teams and junior boys. And on the girls’ side, the club’s first ever female overseas player, Georgia Atkinson, is working with the junior squads alongside playing for the senior women. Cheltenham also welcomes back men’s overseas player Josh Breed who will continue his coaching role with the junior boys.
Luke – who will be coaching both senior mens and women's teams this season – added: “To be able to support and supplement our fantastic volunteer coaches with people with experience of playing and coaching professionally is hugely exciting. Our aspiration is to offer our young players a fantastic first experience of cricket and the opportunity to reach their full potential. With the coaching team we have in place at the club this year we are in a really strong position to do this.”
