Cheltenham travel south down to the idillic "Southam" ground in Cricklade for their next challenge. The weather fortunately passes by and Jen on winning the toss has no hesitation in opting to bat first.
We didn't get off to the best of starts as Liv contrived to get herself caught from the second ball of the innings. Beth and Grace however put that out of their minds and went about their job with great style, putting away the bad balls, defending the good ones and running well to keep the scoreboard ticking along nicely. The Cricklade captain put herself on to bowl in the 8th over with immediate effect, bowling Grace for 13 and then Jen for a duck in the same over. Beth and Millie continued to put the pressure on the bowlers however. Beth played another fantastic innings with shots all around the wicket, retiring on 53 from 48 balls in the 18th over. She and Millie had pushed the score on to 99. Hannah came in and played with great intent as she and Millie continued unbeaten (10* and 12* respectively) and Cheltenham completed their 20 overs with 112 of the finest runs on the board for the loss of only 3 wickets.
Hannah opened the bowling and we were up and running straight away as she bowled the no2 for a duck with her 5th ball. Cricklade then dug in with a partnership of 27 despite some tidy bowling from Eloise, Hannah and Sophie. It was the introduction of Pippa that really took the game away from Cricklade as she ripped the heart out of the Cricklade batting in a triple wicket maiden that saw the no3, 4 & 5 all clean bowled. Cricklade were up against it at 28 for 4 with the run rate rising all the time. Jen bringing herself on claimed the next two wickets, bowling first the opener for a well made 20 and then in her next over the no6 for 4 leaving Cricklade reeling on 41 for 6 in the 14th over. Beth bowling the 18th over carried forward her form with the bat into her bowling and took 2 wickets in an over thanks to a catch from Millie and then another clean bowled. Cricklade hung on and lost their 9th wicket in the final over as Eloise got some reward for bowling well and Cricklade completed their 20 overs on 49 for 9 to hand Cheltenham victory by 63 runs.
A splendid performance all round - solid contributions from 4 of the top 6 batters (including 10 fours) and some amazing bowling figures as we defended a decent total (only conceding 2 boundaries in the process). Well played!
